Playing With Words

In January 2012, we began playing with words together. After an introductory meeting, we chose to write improvisatory pieces at each session, in which we each would contribute a word and then from this shared pool of words, we each would create a piece and read it aloud. It was fun to see what our minds would create in this short time interval, and the ways the pieces were similar and different. It was entertaining and playful to build with words like legos. It was freeing to give up perfectionism and just take pleasure in exploration and sharing.A word is deadWhen it is said, Some say.I say it justBegan to liveThat day.Emily DickinsonWe discovered together the life, play and possibilities available with words. Please join us in this play. Each page has a list of the words we used. Write your own verse. It does not have to be eloquent, perfect or wise. Explore and accept whatever arises. Sometimes you may be surprised. We were. And you can read your piece aloud, along with others.As an outgrowth of our writing group, we created a group called Kindred Spirits, to share our life journeys, the issues, adventures, challenges, joys we are facing and to offer support to one another. In sharing the intimacy of creativity, we gained the ability and connection to share more deeply too, which has been a blessing and inspiration for all of us.If you choose to start your own writing group, you may find both pieces and relationships that surprise and delight you as we did.We are wishing you the best on your journey, inner and outer, and hope you will play with words with us.
