When Mya LeVeaux discovers that her ex-boyfriend is engaged--not to mention that her own father, Bishop Franklyn LeVeaux, is performing the marriage ceremony--there's only one thing to relieve her pain: shopping (nothing like a new pair of shoes to heal a broken heart ). And since Mya is new to Atlanta, a couple of new friends wouldn't hurt either--which is exactly what she finds attached to a pair of burgundy boots. . . Childhood pals Stephanie Hall and Tangie Jackson are on their weekly girls' day out at the mall. For Stephanie, it's the perfect way to give her just-out-of-jail boyfriend some alone time with their two-year-old son. For Tangie, today is a celebration of divorce number two. After a brief tug-of-war over a sexy pair of boots with Mya, the three discover they have more in common than their taste in footwear. . . With two marriages behind her, Tangie is just looking for a good time--even if it's with someone else's husband. Stephanie is just trying to keep it together for her son, putting up with her man's unemployment and waywardness. As for Maya, the only thing she's curling up with these days is a good book. But now that she has her girls in her life, that may be about to change, as each woman deals with the game of love in her own special way--for better or for worse. . .
Our book club read this book and really enjoyed it. It brings to life the characters and makes you feel very close to each and everyone of them. This is his second book and we can't wait to read the third!!

I actually got this book as something to read while I traveled over the holiday and wasn't expecting too much. However, this book was off the chain! The characters were well developed and it has many good twists and turns. I didn't know what to expect next. Great job by this author and I look forward to reading more from him!

This was my first book by Doug Dixon I was very impressed and the book kept me up reading late at night the characters were well written and the ending took me by complete surprise Doug put a lot into this book and the characters I was waiting for the backstabbing and the deceit that friends do but these friends stuck by each other through the whole book and it was so enjoyable knowing that all though this is a fiction book was not a negative book about African-American woman.
Dixon sparks my attention...and discussion with PLAY THE GAME

This was my first book to read by author Doug Dixon---but it won't be the last. PLAY THE GAME allows us to see that regardless of where we see ourselves in lives, there is still much that we can learn about ourselves and others. I don't know what it is about human beings that make us experts on everyone's situation but our own---but Dixon shows what happens when you don't deal with the issues in your own life and try to move on without closure. I am proud to say that Dixon will be visiting Mississippi October 24-26, 2007 to promote the book, and Conversations Book Club will have much to discuss at each event.

Mya Leveaux, Tangie Jackson and Stephanie Hall are all elementary school teachers in Atlanta, Georgia. All three are in differing stages of a relationship. Mya is trying to get over one, Tangie is not committing to just one and Stephanie is living with her man without a marital commitment. Mya meets Darryl who seems to be all she needs and wants. She is not sure of his feelings for her because it seems his attention is always distracted. Stephanie is attempting to better her life by attending church and getting her young son baptized. Tangie is content dating an ex-boyfriend who is now married until she is enticed by the father of one of her students. Stephanie grows tired of her boyfriend's excuses for not going to church with them and the activities that keep him out late at night. She develops a friendship with one of the men of the church who exhibits the qualities she wants in a man. Each of these women find out for themselves if the grass is truly greener on the other side as they play the game. Doug Dixon's latest release, PLAY THE GAME, is an exploration in modern relationships. Each of the friends was fully developed and the reader will be able to relate to them. Their adventures in dating were thoroughly entertaining and held my attention. Dixon was able to pen this tale from the female perspective very well. Although it took time for the story to build, when the readers reached the climatic moments, they will surely be surprised. For those who love relationship drama among friends, this is one book to check out. Reviewed by Paula Henderson of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
