Put aside your preconceived notions about grainline, take rotary cutter in hand and join Roberta as she gives you the skills and artistic license to create dynamic new designs using plaids and stripes. She covers grain, weaves, patterns, value and scale and shows how to enliven or calm a composition. Learn to use these concepts in traditional, utility, log cabin, applique, African-American, and contemporary quilts. Then finish off your project with the appropriate set, border, quilting, binding and label. Templates for 12 quilts included.
I was fortunate enough to buy this book from the author at one of her classes at the Pacific International Quilt Festival. What a relief to discover that the practice of rigidly matching plaids and stripes that is part of fashion sewing can be tossed out the window in quilt making. In fact, having plaids and stripes "casually off-grain" in a quilt block can make the finished quilt more appealing to the eye and can add movement and excitement to the quilt.
