Another Barbara Bottner Gem!

Barbara Bottner has done it again! In Pish and Posh Wish for Fairy Wings, Bottner has brought to life two funny, flawed, quirky fairy characters who are both endearing and oh, so... human! "How can you be a good fairy if you don't get things right?" Pish (who cherishes all things just right) criticizes of Posh (who seems never able to get things just right). But oh... that's where the magic (and the humanness!) comes in. It's Bottner's special genius that she's able to shine a light on the beauty of human imperfection through her characters. She excels at reflecting back to young readers their own funny, flawed, quirky, and endearing humanness in ways they can recognize and relate to. Bottner helps her readers see the humor in themselves, laugh at their own flaws, and feel good about them (and themselves) at the same time. Pish and Bosh Wish for Fairy Wings a true gem.

Fairies with Flaws and Flair!

Finally! Fairies that are by turn: snippy, and clumsy, and wise-cracking, and mean, and remorseful, and hilarious, and sweet. And all the more loveable for it -- because they reflect the flaws and fears (the kid temperaments) of their target audience of beginning readers. Nothing is cloying or saccharin about the Gun-Ho Posh or the Know-It-All Pish. And we parents -- who often read along -- thank the authors for that welcome comic relief amid too many "pink and precious" fairy books. Girls will enjoy the fairy-world elements (wings and magic and spellbooks) but for boys there is a Monster Under the Bed, bright irreverent illustrations and comedic conflict through out. It's a very fast, fun and funny book. Your beginning reader will want to read it over and over. (And isn't that the whole point?!)
