Warm bread and lemon oil pass through Geppetto's workshop window. Pine shavings sprawl on the floor, and little gears sleep in teacups. When the alley looks like a mirror on a rainy afternoon, Geppetto's brave wooden kid Pinocchio finds the book. He learns that gentle "medicines" inside mend broken teacups, calm noisy boards, and extinguish fires. Each recipe has tight rules: Double-check. Request permission. A good thought, not a bottle, helps first.

Pinocchio's mind is ahead. He dreams of a miraculous drink that speeds things up, a syrup that improves days, and a voice that answers questions before they are asked. Hope swirls in his chest like a moth seeking light. He grabs some dewdrop beads and a cherry-wood spoon, and the clock's Blue Fairy picture tells him to reconsider. Pinocchio tells the book, "I will be careful." The lamp hums and rain falls on the roof. I'll help.

He fulfills and betrays this commitment. It begins with a lesson beyond hinges and squeaks. The next story is about responsibility-thinking things thoroughly, gaining permission, and choosing slow knowledge over fast magic.
