An Amazing Page Turner

I read Eric Rill's Pinnacle of Deceit after seeing him on a Toronto TV show. The way the interviewer described it...page turner, unexpected twists and turns, great characters and a surprise ending, had all the elements I love in this kind of book.. I can tell you I was not disappointed. The prologue was a great glimpse into the lives these men would lead. The women they hooked up with were fascinating as well. Rill has a lot of characters, but once I got to know them after the first few chapters I was off to the races and couldn't stop until the end. All I can say is it blew me away!

A THRILLER FAN'S DELIGHT!

As an anniversary gift, my wife picked up 2 novels for me for the weekend. The first was Jeffrey Archer's SONS OF FORTUNE and the second was Eric Rill's PINNACLE OF DECEIT. After about 100 pages I put Archer's down. Definitely not another FIRST AMONG EQUALS. His two main characters were difficult to keep apart and, quite frankly, the twins-separated-at-birth scenario seemed stale. So I picked up Rill's book. Read it in two sittings. Forgot all about the gardening and that trip to the mall. What a page turner! The prologue introduces 4 main characters - residents at a Phoenix orphanage and participants in a violent teenage murder/cover-up. The rest of the book deals with them in adult life and how the event affects their later years. The PINNACLE is a fictitious hotel chain. Don't want to spoil anything but Rill's pre-writing career in the international hotel business shows he knows what he's talking about. The novel has plenty of industry info neatly woven into the story (not ladled like those old Arthur Hailey books). Sorry to say it doesn't tell how to get a free upgrade from economy to a suite, but you do end up feeling you've witnessed the behind-the-scenes glamour of that world. In addition to intriguing settings, Rill creates colourful male and female characters, and best of all, gives us crisp, action-packed writing. If you like thrillers pick up PINNACLE OF DECEIT and jot down ERIC RILL as a name to watch. This guy can write.
