pink, daddy daughter

Pink - pink - pink is one of the most favorite colors for girls. It is no surprise in this book when pink-obsessed Violet Bunny receives an invitation to the 3rd Annual Pink Girls Pink-nic, she gets way too excited at yet another chance to wear all pink. One of her first problems was that she needed to be accompanied by an adult to get to the pink-nic. First, she laid mama's pink outfit, from top to bottom, on her bed while mama was still sleeping. There are pink long-sleeves blouse, pink jacket, pink skirt, pink belt, pink stockings, and pink shoes. Mama was not ready to go. Well, it looked like mama got ... pink dots on her face. "Why is Mama wearing pink spots? Did she put them on special for the party?" With these pink spots on her face, Mama couldn't go to the pink party.... Violet Bunny went through the who-can-accompany-to-the-party list. Despite the fact that Daddy has almost no collection of pink outfit, he offered to go with Violet. They searched his closet to find anything pink to wear. With some courage, and lots of creativeness, Violet Bunny and her Daddy create a whole new outfit for him wear. It is a cute daddy and daughter book. Reviewed by Sophie Masri

First Graders Really Enjoyed This

I just read "Pink Me Up" to a class of first graders as part of our school's promotion of book fair week. I didn't select the book and I was a little doubtful about it, since I'm not a fan of the "girly" books like "Fancy Nancy" and "Pinkalicious." The entire class loved it, though, including the boys. And I found that I enjoyed it as well. The bunny heroine is charming and very child-like, and the first-graders sympathized with her disappointment when her mother is too sick to attend the mother-daughter "pink-nic" party. They loved when she threw herself down on the floor in despair and her carrot-doll did the same. And they liked her solution to her problem as well...this is not a bunny who stays on the floor for long. The artwork is delightful and the message of the book is not "pink is for girls" at all. So count me as a convert to pink, because I love this book!
