Pillars of Faith: The Good Shepherd Parish is not intended to be a scholarly historical document, but rather it is intended to acquaint the reader with how the Good Shepherd Parish came into being from the original parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Bridget's, Saint Joachim's, Lady of Lourdes, Saint Raphael's, Saint Edward's, Our Lady of Good Counsel, and Our Lady of Annunciation.

It is a story tinged with bittersweet memories, which waft about in the very air that we breathe and lurk quite visibly in the landscape. The Miramichi River valley bears the scars and trophies of descendants of sturdy men and women from the homeland of the shamrock and from the thistle more visibly than most, and we have tried to capture it.
