Pilgrimage looks at Christian religious destinations such as the Holy Land, Rome, L0urdes, Fatima, the Way of Saint James, Canterbury, Assisi, Guadalupe and others. Once a pilgrimage is examined, we have related stories of sports and faith. Like our two other Sports and Faith Series books, Pilgrimage examines the lives of many athletes, coaches, and others who live exemplary lives. Often these people act courageously and unselfishly to help those who have the most difficult time in our society. Many of the athletes described in this book are young. Here you will find future contributors and faithful servants. Their athletic preparation, discipline, conditioning, and spiritual and mental training will help them lead faithful lives, just as we need to live such lives as well. There are big shoes to fill as we go out to a world that was made better by so many other great people. People such as Father John Smyth, Father Ignatius McDermott, Wayne Gordon, Stan Musial, George Halas, Art Rooney and others described in our Sports and Faith books followed a faith trail on their pilgrimage. Now younger trekkers will do the same. All of us make our efforts each day on our continuing pilgrimage. We hope our readers find the examples provided, both small and large, a source of inspiration for the journey we all take each and every day of our lives. Perhaps that's the most attractive notion of this book; we are all on a pilgrimage, finding our way to God. And we are never alone.
