Biased Review

As a dear friend of mine wrote this, I have nothing bad to say about this book. I look forward to seeing many more great things coming from Kim.

Sizzling Lesbian Romance Thriller

For a first-time novel (I'm assuming this is a first, since there are no other books by a Kimberly LaFontaine), this was a spectacular effort. New writers often have difficulties completing the first few paragraphs without stumbling into their characters' lives in a clumsey, bumbling way. But LaFontaine manages to jump right in with clear precision that makes you feel like you've known these characters all your life. In other words, you're instantly hooked. And you fall in love with Angie, Lauren, and Jimmy. LaFontaine's main strengths are her true-to-life conversations and gripping characters. The plot is also very interesting and has a neat little twist at the end that will surprise most readers. What I loved most about this book was the insight into a reporter's life and the developing relationship between Angie and Lauren. There are some powerful, fast-paced action scenes that are splendidly narrated. And the sex ... let's just say the long build-up (ten chapters) is well worth the wait. The first two thirds of the book, you can't put it down because of the developing mystery and the growing sexual tension between the two women. The last third, you can't put it down because of the action and you just have to find out how it ends. It's a book well worth reading, a top lesbian novel on my list (and I've read a lot of lesbian fiction). That's not to say that LaFontaine doesn't have a lot to learn. But with the first novel this good, I can't wait to read what she writes next. Her website implies that there will be a sequel. I really hope that happens.
