Book was practically brand new!

This is obviously a dated book, but I recognized that when I purchased it. That being said it still has tremendous value for homeschooling. While I recognize we don't use boom boxes, cds, and tapes, etc... The antiquated technology displayed in this book can technically just double as a bit of a history lesson. All of the information is still relevant because on the whole most information in science especially physical sciences doesn't change too often. When teaching from older textbooks it is wise to keep in mind that it is okay to correct information if it has changed and teach the student a far more valuable skill set of learning to learn, meaning learning to unlearn and relearn when necessary! That will be anyone's biggest asset. Especially in today's age where it seems to be our new "illiteracy." Oh and to add to the other homeschool momma, she is right it is two in one book combo. But I think what people are failing to understand with public school textbooks and in general is that they do this on purpose because repetition breeds better understanding and concept competence. Its designed this way on purpose. It's designed to first introduce you to the concept on a more vague basis, then in the second portion reacquaint you and further build on that concept. They have found that this is the best way to learn complicated subjects, especially since most children and teens still developing their emotional regulation will have a low frustration tolerance and attention span, even more with today's children in our sm laden tech society. It enables it to be taught in smaller sections and prevent burnout.

It's actually two books in one, but there is no way to differentiate between the two books without noticing the restart of the page numbers. Other than that it's great love the activities and how it really engages my student

Effective Physical Science Text for Home Schooling

I purchased this text for a high school Physical Science course, despite it being a later edition (1999), and I believe it to be a very good textbook. The information is not only presented in a very coherent fashion that is extremely user friendly (lots of pictures, tables, graphs, margin highlights, et al), but it is also supplemented with many hands on activities, such as projects and mini-labs, in addition to end-of-subchapter and chapter review questions. And, although the answers to these are not proffered in the back of the text, they are easily discernable if one has thoroughly read the course material, which I habitually do before preparing an assignment for my son. Moreover, upon comparing this edition with its more recent counterpart via Glencoe's website, I found them to be very similar. Sure, many of the chapters are rearranged and regrouped, and two additional chapters were added (Chapter 12: Electromagnetic Waves and Chapter 25: New Materials Through Chemistry) in the latest edition, but the information contained did not alter (and I can always supplement any missing information, which I already do anyway). All in all, this was QUITE an exceptional find particulary given its content along with its $7.24 price tag, and I have no qualms in recommending it to others.
