Philippa of Hainault was queen of England from 1327 until her death in 1369. Together she and Edward III had thirteen children, including Edward the Black Prince and the equally famous John of Gaunt. Edward's reign was a period of constant warfare. With the king away fighting the French on the continent, Philippa served as his regent and was at the head of English forces that defeated the Scots at Neville's Cross in 1346.
