The definitive book on quarterbacking

I am a head football coach of a high school in Wilmington, Delaware. We like to throw the football at our place. I have been at the school for six years serving as the head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Having worked with quarterbacks on the Pop Warner, high school, college and semi professional level, I can honestly say that there isn't a better quarterback book out there. On of the best features of the book is its diagnostic chart that explains to a quarterback what he is doing wrong. It is a great way for youngsters and parents to understand what they did wrong when throwing the football. "I'm throwing low and short all the time"... well I look at the guide and it tells me that I must be either locking out my front knee or I'm landing on my front foot toe-heel. Very good stuff. I was never a huge Phil Simms guy growing up. But techncally, he is about as sound a quarterback as you could get. I take a tremendous amount of pride when people tell me that our quarterback looked like Phil Simms! It certainly shows that the tecniques are very teachable. A nice companion book for your wide receivers for coaches and parents is Raymond Berry's "Complete Guide to Coaching Wide Receivers". My receivers all read this book.

Terrific on many levels

This book certainly succeeds as a teaching tool for QBs,(even if you just play touch football on the weekend!) but it's also great for a fan who wants a truly in-depth knowledge of the QB position. Once you understand what they're doing, you'll never look at QBs the same way again. You'll enjoy this book if you were a Simms fan because there's a lot on Simms' development as a QB. You'll enjoy this book if you're a Giants fan because there's lots of quotes in it from other Giants past and present, including Giants new Head Coach & QB guru Jim Fassel. Much of what Simms is preaching is Fassel's techniques. Not difficult reading or technically complex stuff

A must-have for QB coaches

From the ground up, this is as strong a step-by-step way for quarterbacks to learn the fundamentals of their craft as I have seen. Phil does an excellent job of presenting throwing mechanics in a step-by-step fashion with complimentary drills that develop the skills he's teaching. Attention to detail is excellent as well. I plan on encouraging all of my QBs to get a copy as a supplement to our off-season program
