The root system in plants is a difficult region to study, as it is located underground, which acts as a physical barrier. This book presents a quick and non-destructive methodology for evaluating roots in plants, with reliable results, using a scanner. Using this methodology, it was possible to phenotype a large number of genotypes-phenomics-that make up Embrapa's core collection for drought tolerance, making it an important source for root research on these materials. A segregating population was also phenotyped using this methodology and subsequently genotyped using DNA chips to find regions in the upland rice chromosome that control root traits.
