One of the best fan-written sequels I've read

This book is one of the best Phantom continuation novels I've read yet. It is, admittedly, based mostly on the movie version of the story. I laughed and I cried. I thought the author did a great job of picking up where the movie ended and following Erik, Christine, Raoul and Meg through the rest of their lives and telling the rest of their stories. It didn't seem too "formulaic" like some romance novels. There were some twists and turns that kept me reading to find out what happened next. It also told some of the story of the changing world around them at the turn of the century. I've read some other fan-written sequels that seemed to lose the essence of the characters that I came to know and care about in the movie. This novel stayed true to those characters, but followed them as they grew, as they changed and as their world changed.

The rest of the story!

Phantom's Legacy begins where the movie ended, filling in the intervening years between Erik's release of Christine and the scene of Raoul in the graveyard. We are given a story that spans 48 years and interweaves the lives of the main characters in a satisfying way. And what a story Epps gives us! This fast-paced, well written book is the story of how a tragedy, like the opera house fire, can cause a lasting, positive effect on the lives and families of 4 people: Christine, Meg, Raoul and Erik. War, love, redemption, and healing are a few of the themes this tale encompasses. The energy with which it begins is sustained throughout, and my only complaint is the length of time (in years) that it takes for Erik to find and accept the steadfast love offered to him at the beginning of the story. But then, I am a hopeless romantic. This "flaw" did not negatively impact my enjoyment of this love story. Ms. Epps makes no secret of the fact that she wrote this story with the actors of POTO in mind. This in no way detracts from the story, in fact, it made it easier for me to visualize these interesting characters. Read it; it is well-worth your time.

The story as we all wished it could have happened!!

I think this is my favorite Phantom novel! I absolutely loved what the author has done with all the characters! Having Erik tell the story in his very own words makes it so special for me! You get to know all the characters so well...you feel as if you are living their story with them! Erik is so in touch with himself in this one! With him telling the story...you are inside his head and he is finally able to feel love! I have never shed a tear in any of the other Phantom books but in this one...I did! I loved what the author has done with this much told story...and she manages to answer questions that have been left unanswered! You finish this book being completely satisfied...knowing all of the characters have found love and peace in their lives!

The Phantoms Legacy/ Stunning and beautiful

I bought this book expecting to enjoy it as I love Phantom of the Opera fan stories but not really believing it could be more than a usual read. I was absolutely glued to this book. If ever they make a movie to be a sequal to the 2004 film...this is the book that should be the script. I loved it. It makes dear Erik, Meg,Christine, Raoul and all the beloved characters of this original play come to life and live a life that I dreamed of for them. I was so moved by this story. It's sensitivity and beauty was wonderful and I felt I knew them, was there with them living through each year that Erik struggled and faced his demons of the soul. I was totally satisfied and pleased with this Authors conception of the aftermath of the Opera house disaster and the turns in the lives of the main characters in the story. To tell the story would spoil it for you, but Believe me...this book is well worth your time and your money. It holds a high place of honor on my bookshelf. Wonderful!!!!

A Touching "Legacy"...

I found this to be one of the best of the current crop of "Phantom" sequels; it covers the life of Erik, the 'Phantom' as he escapes the chaos of the Great Disaster and seeks fulfillment and peace in his troubled life. This is NOT a "bodice-ripper"! Lucilla Epps has taken the story of Erik and tastefully written him as a real man, with strengths and faults, humor and sadness. I really enjoyed the roles of Madame and Meg Giry in the continuing tale, and even Carlotta has a part (though NOT the lead...). A real surprise is the resolution of the rivalry between Raoul and Erik--but I give too much away... Play a concerto, light some candles, pour a glass of wine, and immerse yourself in this excellent first novel--I don't think you'll be disappointed! Bevan Auby
