English summary: Nursing science is now established in Germany as an academic discipline in its own right, covering all aspects of the discipline including research and education as well as health and occupational policy concerns. It is argued in this volume that meaningful answers to the cumulating problems in the provision of care can only be found by opening up the discipline to new perspectives. The authors seek to explain - programmatically and in other ways - how the potential of creative, fundamental theoretical and empirical work in the context of nursing science can only be fully exploited through communication with other academic disciplines. The contributions - from the fields of philosophy, gerontology, musicology, psychology, theology, nursing history and literary history - show what a storehouse of knowledge and inspiration can be tapped through communication with related discipines, and offer a sample of how nursing research can be enriched by integrating theoretical elements from other disciplines.
