Petra has spent years catering to her abusive husband, Jacob Bryant. Jacob has a drinking problem and has become increasingly violent since their wedding. He is also an officer for the local police department, leaving Petra with nowhere to turn. After one particularly bad night, Petra decides to take their four-year-old son and leave. She only has a few dollars in her pocket and no idea where they might end up.

Unfortunately, familial ties are strong and nearly impossible to escape. Petra becomes increasingly disturbed by this realization the further she gets from home.

Petra's Escape is a dark psychological short story that explores the dark, complex issue of domestic violence and the cycle of abuse.
