Almost a century after their publication, two golden volumes by Vincenzo Arangio-Ruiz, the fruit of two courses of 'extraordinary lectures' on legal papyrology held in Milan at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in 1927 and 1929, are back in circulation: 'Lineamenti del sistema contrattuale nel diritto dei papiri' and 'Persone e famiglia nel diritto dei papiri'. They put the theme of legal certainty in a new and relativising light, to be always declined not only on the basis of the 'totem' of the law, but also by virtue of practice, local customs, and contaminations between different histories and systems.
