A young police officer, recently promoted into the 5th Precinct Gang Unit, has stepped right into a hornet's nest of another shooting spree, and it becomes apparent the suspects could be any number of rival Asian or other ethnic gangsters. He didn't expect stellate ties to the Catholic Church, British Crown, 3-letter Agencies, or his family. Clouding his investigation further is the presence of a body belonging to an unidentified white woman. Following the trail sign left behind, it leads him far beyond local organized crime and into the swim lanes of global high-finance, international geo-political power brokers, and crooked echelons from governments both foreign and domestic. What would have, on face value, seem to be another sour drug deal winds up revealing an international conspiracy responsible for the release of a weapon of mass destruction in the form of a biological pathogen intersecting a group working for the global human trafficking business. The decussate incident in New York leads the Detective to seemingly unrelated violence much farther down the east coast. Loose threads from the former and latter crime scenes provide him with a decision to augment his meager resources to uncover what happens to be a much bigger crime than even he could have imagined...and a smaller crime that is equally vital to solve. Meanwhile, a middle-aged zaftig American lawyer and his boulevardier fianc?e, on a fact-finding business trip/impromptu vacation, are fighting for their lives in an Asian hospital. His survival is the passe-partout to providing valuable information not only to his clientele, but also clandestine interests. Should he be successfully debriefed, at best he will be sequestered, and at worst eliminated, depending on what he has to say...if he is able to say it. Most troubling and confusing to the young bel-esprit officer is that all these connections have a common denominator: a second man, incapacitated himself, who is known by a variety of aliases, directly connected to caliginous elements of the United States government, on first name terms with notorious Mafiosi, marked for death by disparate groups, and embroiled in foreign intrigues.
