Imagine.... You are living the American Dream. You have a wonderful wife, two children, a dog, two cars, and a job that you enjoy going to every day. You notice your life is starting to follow a different path. For some unexplained reason, you're on a road that you have no choice but to follow. Your mind tells you that everything will be okay and you will find a way to get back to where you were. Those who are the closest to you, are noticing that you are heading on this path. They try to warn you, but nothing they say and nothing you experience along the way convinces you that this path is not where you intended to be.One day, you wake up and do everything that you normally do. Even though you feel tired, you push through and try to make the day the best it can be until, in a matter of minutes, your world crashes all around you. You find that you can't breathe and no matter how hard you try, your body cannot get air into your lungs. The harder you try, the worse it gets. Before you know it, you are in an ambulance, watching the outer edges of your vision close in towards nothing and then everything else seems like a bad dream. You wake up in the ICU and realize that your life has changed, but you don't know exactly what is wrong. After a few more months pass, you find out you have Myasthenia Gravis and your life has now been put on a Permanent Detour. What you do with your life and how you live with it has changed your life forever. Permanent Detour is the personal story of the author. He tells how he dealt with the symptoms he experienced before he was diagnosed, how he nearly died due to complications of the yet undiagnosed disease, what he experienced working with the many doctors searching for a diagnosis, finally receiving the diagnosis and in doing so, how it changed his outlook on life and all it has to offer.
