it makes me smile

it is a simple story of the quest for love, i am nortoriously hard to please and the mixture of an innovative plot and sylivia andrews captivating writing style left me with a warm fuzzy satisfaction. Perdita herself, what is she? she was found a pirates whore, but then why does she have the grace of the well bred? and the more questions lord ambourne answers the more he falls under her spell

very good

I found this book to be a really great romance! I don't like when the main characters discover they are in love right off the bat. This one keeps the romance going, and the tension between the characters when they meet is very well done. At first, the Earl, who rescues Perdita for the purpose of using her as a 'tool' for revenge, is very unlikable, calling Perdita a slut (which he assumes she is) and he doesn't treat her as a human being. Understandably she grows to dislike his treatment of her so she chooses not to talk at all, basically to piss him off. When she does decide it's time for him to hear her talk, she doesn't tell him her past history, for fear that he would no longer give her a roof over her head. I took off a star because I thought the Earl's realization that he was in love with Perdita was a bit abrupt, and the ending made me kind of loose interest once all tension between our characters was gone.

He found his destiny in The Lost One

Perdita means The Lost One. This was the name the Earl of Ambourne gave the English slave girl he bought in Algiers because she refused to utter a word.Thinking she was a pirate's whore, he intended to use her as a tool of revenge against the man who ruined his cousin. In preparing this 'lowly creature' for this role,he bought her a new wardrobe and hired tutors to groom her. He was surprised by her striking beauty, strong character and air of innocence and was very much taken. Imperceptibly, mutual attraction grew as Perdita found the Earl to be very attractive, fair-minded and honorable. However, falling in love would be against their better judgement. What will happen? Would the Earl go through with his plan despite his love for Perdita? The fall and rise of emotions and the turn of events kept me turning the pages. At the end of the story I sighed with satisfaction.
