Penny and the Four Questions

This book for four to eight year olds can also be read to adults. I recently read it to a class of mine entitled " Educating for Diversity," and observed a number of tear-filled eyes. Many expressed early remembrances of their Passover seders and the excitement of reciting the four questions that Penny describes so well in the book, while others related well to the problems immigrants to the United States face. Some recalled inviting people of lesser means to their holiday tables and the satisfaction that it brought. Still others had never heard of a seder and the the customs that are associated with it and they felt the book described the Passover holiday in a manner that was easily understood. Words such as compassion, understanding, spirituality, friendship, and sharing can easily become discussion topics when this book is used with young children. I would highly recommend this book for teachers and parents who are looking to expose their children to people with diverse backgrounds.
