Innovations change our views, actions and our lives. I began these essays, concerned about therapidity of their effects and our distraction from their consequences. New stuff is fueled by ourcreativity, curiosity, and the call of marketing for us to embrace the new, on which the warninglabel is in small print and hard to read. It doesn't prepare us for where the path we have createdwill lead. As our tools multiply the effect we see on our world and ourselves, we may be our ownworst enemy.I am frustrated about technology when it does not deliver better value. I am concerned about thefuture of children in a virtual world, rather than one of physical activities and events. I amworried about the growing evidence of technology being used by one group to repress anotherand intrude into the privacy, respect and dignity of the individual.It seemed necessary to finish this work before its examples got stale. Time has shown that newexamples pop up that make the same and even more poignant points.
