This is one of the books I would read again and again. I can even remember exactly on which shelf in my local library back in Flint, Michigan this book was located because I checked it out so many times. I really wish this one and Magic Elizabeth by Norma Kassirer would come back into print because both are timeless stories. So vivid are the images created in this book that I can still remember scenes and illustrations -- especially the "Peach People" the two girls made from the unripe peaches culled from the trees. This is a great book!
My Favorite!

This is my most favorite children's book. I received it for Christmas when I was 10 years old and loved it so much I saved it for my daughter and she loved it just as much. She is now 37 and it has an honored place on her bookshelf. The story flows easily and the peach harvest background just makes it that much more enjoyable.
It's memorable!

This is a story about an orphaned girl who has been transferred from relative to relative. On Peachtree Island she finds a real home. Part of what makes this story memorable is the background about growing peaches. The author demonstrates a real knowledge of the processes involved, which necessitate year-around work in the peach orchard. It's an excellent book!
