Patricia Stiltington thinks that girls are silly, frivolous and boring. She gets along just fine with her six brothers and father, spending her time in manly pursuits. But when her father tells her that he is sending her to London for a Season, she is not pleased! He even suggests that she look for a suitor! Patricia laughs heartily-- what would she want with a suitor? In London, Patricia meets the handsome Lord Veracruz and bumbling Christopher Henley. Both gentlemen show a great deal of interest in her, but when she learns of a duel between them, she is very grateful that she has hidden talents--like that of using a bow and arrow-- because she will have to upset the duel! Read what happens as Patricia learns that while manly pursuits are just fine, there are a lot of advantages to being a girl after all. The Aunt Margarete Novella Series is collection of stories about the nieces and nephews of Aunt Margarete Fendora, who lives in a spacious townhouse in London. Margarete, is a young woman herself, but her numerous older siblings keep sending their children to her to have a Season in London. In this book, Patricia's older brother Jeromy, travels with her to London, and finds a very lovely lady of his own. All placed in the delightful era of Regency London, of social strictures and intrigue.Excerpt from Book:"Ho, there, Mr. Henley" Patricia raised her voice to him.Lord Veracruz grunted, "You don't have to sound pleased to see him! The man is an ox!"Patricia only glanced at Lord Veracruz as Mr. Henley raised a hand, "Quite a rower you are, Miss Fendora! I say, you could probably win a race if you so desired." He had a warm smile, and she suspected he had heard a lot of her conversation with Lord Veracruz. He continued, "I had just stopped by for a visit at your aunt's house, when Growley told me you were here. So, I've come to find you!" Lord Veracruz raised his chin and fumed, "Well, you aren't wanted! Miss Fendora and I are having a very nice outing, which we will now continue. So, if you will excuse us." He tried to take the oars from Patricia."I'm not done talking to him!" Patricia clung to the oars.Lord Veracruz insisted, "Come, my dear, we must be on our way. Mr. Henley has no interest in either of us! Let's go back to where we were!" He wrenched the oars out of Patricia's hands abruptly.Patricia had absolutely no desire to go back to where they were, and heard Mr. Henley say, "Who says I have no interest in either of you?"Patricia suddenly stood up in the boat and said, "I wonder, is there any way that I could come ashore right there, Mr. Henley? I believe Lord Veracruz and I are finished!"Lord Veracruz stood, too, and he was angry. "Miss Fendora! I insist! Sit down and I will gladly row you wherever you want to go! Sit down or you will tip us over!"Patricia crossed her arms in front of her, "I don't trust you as far as I can throw you! I will get out now!"Lord Veracruz bent to grab an oar that was sliding into the lake, he probably did not know that it would float, and rocked the boat to a very great degree. Patricia threw her arms out to keep her balance, but it was no use. Lord Veracruz lunged for the oar, tipping the craft and a surprised Miss Fendora into the lake. Miraculously the little boat righted itself and wobbled, and Lord Veracruz was safe and dry and in possession of both oars. Patricia, on the other hand, went completely under the water among the bulrushes.
