Paths and syncretisms at the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Umbanda Centre

This research aims to understand the syncretisms present in the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Umbanda Centre of the "Nicanor da Luz" quilombola community, located in the Cancel?o neighbourhood, in the municipality of Piratini, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The centre, led by Dona Santa, is unique because of the different religious matrices through which her cacica moves. Her practices of benzedura and healing, and the recitation of Catholic rosaries, learnt from her mother when she still lived in the countryside, together with the other residents of the community who, like Dona Santa, already practised the Umbanda religion in that environment, help to form this Umbanda.
