Jena, meaning "Little Bird" in Farsi, is an Iranian-American teenager who struggles with her heritage. In celebration of her sixteenth birthday, her father takes Jen to visit relatives in Tehran, hoping she will connect with the culture and traditions he values. Shortly after arriving, Jen is kidnapped from a crowded bazaar, and sold into modern-day slavery.
