An interesting love story

An interesting love story. It was at some points predictable but that didn't take away from its plot. Kevin arrives on the scene ready to save the day and to recapture the heart of the woman he vowed to love forever. Nicole tries to hide behind the years of pain and pretend that the love they shared then wasn't real and that it couldn't possibly stand the test of time. What she learns is that some promises are made to be kept and Kevin will do everything within his power to prove to her that the promise he made ten years ago and the vows he made then are as real as when he first uttered the words. The turmoil that Tolloston College goes through brings them closer together as they try to keep the university intact and find the person responsible for trying to destroy the one thing that has meant so much to Nicole and the one thing Kevin uses to reunite him to her. What is admirable is that she doesn't yield to his initial advances even though he has everything, acquired wealth, fame and the glits and glamour that goes along with it all. It is only after she learns that the promise he made then was kept and at the end of the story the anchor that kept them together then really did stand the test of the time.

A good ethnic romance

Nicole Blakely, Dean of the financially strapped Tolleston College, feels the fundraising auction will considerably help the school. However, she is stunned to learn that former football great and fellow alumni Kevin Powell will auction a first edition book. Nicole does not want Kevin anywhere near her as he badly hurt her ten years ago. However, she knows the college needs the million he donated and the other cash he brings in by just being a sports hero. Nicole also worries that the board does not agree with her efforts to save the college by expansion. She feels someone wants to destroy her efforts. She also worries about why Kevin has suddenly reappeared and has made saving the college his goal. What she does not know is that Kevin has a personal stake in saving the college. He plans to rectify his error ten years ago and marry his beloved Nicole if he can only persuade her that he needs her. PAST PROMISES is a warm ethnic romance starring two charming lead characters and a support cast that adds the feel of a college environment. The story line is entertaining and somewhat insightful, but adding intrigue is unnecessary as many of the black colleges are in need of financial help. That would have served as a more realistic foundation for the love story. Still Jahmel West provides the audience a strong stirring story that will give much pleasure to readers.Harriet Klausner
