The term 'passport bro' has been used in the media, on YouTube, and Instagram, and other various platforms, and today is seen as somewhat 'trendy'. But Steve McLaird was a 'passport bro', long before the phrase was even uttered. He got his first taste of life in Thailand back in 1983 when he spent almost two months on business, and fell in love from the moment he stepped off the plane. He fell in love with the culture, the genuinely friendly nature of the people, and the laid-back attitude. Growing tired of the increasing violence of the US, the ineffectiveness of the Government, and ever-rising prices on goods and services, yet a dwindling buying power of the dollar, made him consider other options He retired from the telecommunications industry in 1993, made no less than a dozen trips back to Thailand, checking out possible retirement opportunities, and made friends with Ex-Pats who, like him, also desired a better quality of life. Finally, in 1997, he decided to go for it. He sold his house, cashed out on some stocks, and departed for greener pastures, and to this day, he says he has no regrets about leaving. Now he spends his time between Bangkok and the sun-soaked beaches of Phuket, living out the dream that eluded him back home He, with the help of several Ex-Pats, has designed this book to help future Ex-Pats navigate their way out of the US and to a land where, thanks to the economy, one can live, eat, and play cheaply. As Steve himself said, 'The American Dream is still alive and well....but it's in Thailand'
