83 thin pages can change a life

In less than 80 pages McGuire explains why literature matters, how to read it, how to get the most out of it, and what W.H. Auden was talking about when he praised amateur critics for their "passionate attention". Literature and Life are exactly the same: You get the most out of it when you put the most into it. I'm still the same amateur critic I was when I first read this book 15 years ago. And I'll sing this books praises just as sincerely now as I did then.
