Sergeant Michael Dunne of the 10th Canadian Infantry Battalion has survived some of the worst fighting of the Great War. Wounded on the Western Front, he returns home to Calgary, a broken man suffering from neurasthenia and facing trial as a deserter should he ever attempt a return to the battlefield. I really enjoyed this book!

Okay, I feel the other reviewers have said it all when it comes to this book, but I have to tell you I enjoyed the book, and hope to see the film soon. I guess we Americans will have to wait for the DVD. I think english speaking people tend to forget thier country were not the only ones involved in both world wars, and this is a nice peak in to a Canadian solder's view. Read the book, you won't be disappointed.

A Canadian (love) story in the middle of WW1

This is not great literature, if that's what you are looking for go read Tolstoy. However, if you want a story that makes you laugh and cry and really care about the characters, this is it. You are immediately pulled into the lives of these characters, it's what keeps you reading and in the end breaks your heart. I'm sure this will be a great story up on the big screen. Unfortunately, it appears that those of us who live in the U.S. will have to wait for it to show up on DVD.
