This really is a very fine book. I found it almost by accident in the library here.It would be a nice gift for anyone who enjoys reading about machinery and tools old and new, or about men young and old. Lewontin's descriptions of the mill's machines, the headsaw, the ripsaw, the boiler and steam tank and others, and the men who run them, are all evocative, and while the narrative sometimes loses a bit of steam, all in all it's an excellent read.
