Parlor Games

Parlor Games is the three year journey of a man in his early forties who tries to find love in his life again after losing his mother. During that period Patrick had fallen into a double life. Much like Herman Hesse's Steppenwolf - he "was lost in the maze and whirl of the dance." Patrick maintains a dialogue with the 'voice in his head' - the poetic Pan. Pan is a satyr - a mythological creature who reveals the overwhelming power of the sexual instinct and the danger of illusions and fantasy. Patrick embraces two myths - Echo and Narcissus and Medusa and the Gorgons. His journey is a synthesis of these myths brought together psychologically to allow him to 'find his heart'. The play is structurally built as a diatonic scale manifesting the resonance existing between 'octave' worlds. Patrick is surrounded by companions who accompany and assist him through the underworld. His journey eventually leads him to the heart of a beautiful girl named Gigi. Gigi embodies both Narcissa and Medusa - the mortal and most powerful sister of the Gorgons. Patrick finds his heart and himself. In the words of Pan - "awaken from immortality - your heart will find its way and your mind will stumble in its wake."
