Truly a Complete Manual for Beginners

When we rescued an escaped Parakeet from certain death (she'd spent several nights in sub-zero temps) we knew that we could not keep her. We have 7 cats! My husband's parents agreed to keep her, but knew only about caring for cockatiels. Since they are in their 80's, we wanted to make certain that they knew the ins and outs of parakeet care. This book, while short, is packed full of all the information you may need to know about parakeet care - from the basics of feeding and cage care, to breeding and creating your own flock. It is obvious that the author is quite smitten by parakeets, and tends to refer to them at times almost as if they are people. Yes, each and every animal has their own personality and endearing charms, and birds are certainly in this category. What we found most interesting was her insight into the flock mentality, and how important it is to either BE the bird's flock, or have more than one bird. To leave a parakeet alone for many hours during the day, with contact from no one, is to condemn the bird to misery. Once reading this, we ran out and bought our rescued bird a mate. Since introducing them to each other, they are inseparable. Our parents read the book thoroughly, and changed or adapted the cage, the feeding and the socializing of their birds accordingly. Since they don't care to allow the birds to fly through the house, finger taming isn't going well! The book recommends that all parakeets be allowed to fly and to explore their environments. The book gives exact instructions for "bird-proofing" the home so that the naturally curious birds do not fall into things, eat things, or generally hurt themselves. The author has thought of everything. We highly recommend this book to anyone thinking of having parakeets.

Parakeets A Complete Pet Owner's Manual

I LOVE this BOOK! It is quite informative. I do wish to obtain additional books on parakeets. I wish these books had been around when I was growing up! i LOVE these animals. Their so cretive and unique in their own little ways thought they really are n ot small at all! Thanak you.

Very informative

This was an easy to read book which was very informative about the best ways to care for a parakeet. It is detailed and contains pictures which are great for kid's review.

This book is the ultimate book for soon-to-be or already parakeet owners. It holds more information on parakeets than I imagined. I am a soon-to-be parakeet owner who was looking for a good book on parakeet care and training. I found this book and immediately knew that I'd have to buy it for further reference! This book holds information on: hand and trust training, tips for purchasing a parakeet, states what you'll need for your parakeet, information on toys, prevention of diseases and boredom, and much much more! I cannot even begin to describe the whole book. Annette Wolter refers to her life experiences with her parakeets that helped me to understand better what to expect from parakeets. This book DEFINITELY deserves MORE than 5 stars! Looking for a REALLY good parakeet owner's manual? This IS the book for you!

Best Bird Book/Parakeet

I first got this book at the library, wanting a parakeet for my birthday. When I decided I wanted one I purchased the book. It has been very helpful. It has questions to ask yourself if a bird is right for you, ways to pick a bird, how to take care of a bird, how to tame, how to speech-train, what their diet is, lifespan of a parakeet, and much, much more.I have now had my bird for a month and I can still use the book and I will be able to use the book for a long time.
