Paradise on Fire is a poignant and dramatic play that recounts the story of Dj rand h, a worthy son and noble farmer living in B ma . Astonished to see his many fields and his village invaded by the livestock of the wealthy merchant-herder and cattle-officers of B kusan , without any respect for local customs and traditions, he dedicates himself to the immediate liberation and peace of the community held hostage by the herders. His efforts to resolve the conflict unfortunately fail due to the irresponsibility, greed, and corruption of the local leaders and institutions, who constantly obstruct his actions. In his commitment to promoting peace and restoring harmony between farmers and herders in the area, he loses all his possessions, some of his wives, and children. As in the tradition of ancient theaters, the intervention of a deus ex machina-none other than his deceased father-was necessary to save his life and restore a glimmer of hope to the village of B ma . This work highlights the cruelty, discrimination, and indifference of administrative and local authorities toward the rural population in southern, eastern, and southwestern Chad, the Central African Republic, and throughout much of Africa, particularly in the southern Sahel.
