This cookbook is a thorough accumulation of the finest Southern Gumbo recipes that I have found. Many of these recipes come from my family and friends from the Southeast United States. My perfect area to relax is along the Gulf Coast. My beach home was 2 hours drive from New Orleans, Louisiana where the most wonderful Cajun and Creole cooking can be found. I was also located 3 hours drive from our family homestead near Tallahassee, Florida. In the Florida panhandle, many of my childhood memories centered around our American Indian heritage, and down to earth early American experiences of hunting and fishing excursions that brought home the "bacon". Wild boar and alligator hunts yielded the stories told around the fireplace. Fishing trips gave the boys an opportunity to get alone and bond. And of course, the abundance of fish along the Suwannee River made it pretty certain that the cookoff and dishes would give ample opportunity to gather and share wonderful and savory moments.
