Versatile!

I ordered this book because after building the larger paper models from Rob Ive's other books I was intrigued that these were both smaller and operated via a spring clothespin. The book has instructions for the models in the front and pages printed for the actual models plus how to shape your wire/paper clip and where to drill the clothespin per model in the back. Instead of making those printed paper models, I traced the patterns onto clear plastic and then traced those on to my own choice of paper, even using pretty envelopes or gift bags and maps. That method also allowed me to adapt the patterns to my preferred animals. For example, instead of making the penguin shown on the front cover, I turned that pattern into rabbits and snowmen. I made quite a few butterflies, birds, elephants, and penguin/rabbits, and also the flying pig, which I turned into a rabbit and a groundhog and plan to use for a fish. My grandson really enjoyed making the dinosaurs and decorating them to their whims. After embellishing the clothespins accordingly, I gave the models I may away for Easter gifts and Christmas ornaments. Everyone so far has loved them and been fascinated with how well they work. I purchased this book on a whim, had to talk myself into buying it in fact, but it was one of my best purchases ever! (I'd especially wanted to make the elephant and so tackled that model first. The instructions for all of the models are clear enough and illustrated well enough so they aren't hard to make, just very, very time consuming.)
