Book Overview

Her first novel, Topping from Below, was a cause celebre of erotic fiction. Now, in Panic Snap, Laura Reese once again crosses the boundary between pleasure and pain with a story of extreme sexual obsession and one family's terrible secret. Very Erotic - Dark BDSM murder mystery -- Recommended read!!

Very impressed with Ms. Reese's work. As Glamour Magazine noted on the back of the book jacket, Imagine a tale that's one part sleuthing a la Sue Grafton's E Is for Evidence, to 3 parts handcuffing, a la Pauline Reage's Story of O... The story starts with a woman, Carly Tyler, who cannot remember her past. She survived a serious injury that left her near death, physically scarred, and without any memory. She was transformed into a new woman through the miracle of multiple plastic surgery. However, her quest for mental healing led her to Byblos Winery in Napa Valley to work for the McGuane family...James, his sister Gina, and his elderly mother. Carly stumbles onto a quiet secret -- James is into BDSM relationships. Carly falls under his trance and his dominance. She begs James 'to hurt me'. Thus their relationship begins... Only to find out that James and his family are tied to Carly's past and her near death experience - when she stumbles on information that James's wife died at the same time Carly's injuries occurred. It is a very spellbinding book. If you are not into BDSM, erotica or easily offended by sexual content, then this book is not for you. However, if you want a good erotic read -- buy the book.

Erotic, Mysterious and OUTSTANDING

Laura Reese has once again filled my collection of books with an outstanding novel. "Topping from Below" was an erotic thriller that kept me on my seat and kept me reading for hours, retracing words that I had already read. She once again has made me feel that that wonderous adventure with "Panic Snap" This book was a wonderful second novel by Laura Reese, and I truely cant wait til she writes yet another. Her writing kept me on the edge of my seat and when I picked up the book, I didnt put it down til I was finished! The relationship between James and Carly was riviting! When done reading the book I wanted to cry because the book was finished. Great work by a great author!!!!!

A Terrific Book

I agree with the reader from Oregon-Panic Snap is a terrific book, sexy and suspenseful, but WHO is Laura Reese? Her bio isconspicuously absent from her web page. . . and her photos are alwaysin murky shadows. A clue appears in the first pages of Panic Snap, when the main character says she takes her last name from the author of a book called Morgan's Passing (Anne Tyler). Nice try, Anne, but give it up. There's no need for a pseudonym-we love you even when you turn to mystery, mayhem, and sex.

Psychological Thriller meets S/M Erotica

I totally agree that the similarities between Ms. Reese's first novel (Topping from Below) and this one are blatent, but it is still a really good book. I was mesmorized by the descriptions of the scenery and the tactile physiological sensations of the main character, Carly. Sure, the plot was a tad predictable, but the sex scenes were excellent: diverse, surprising, and erotic. If you read a lot of erotica, you know that most of it is trash- all sex, no story. This book has a great story that keeps you turning the pages as quickly as you can. And just like the last novel, you really don't know who the killer is until the last chapter,,, it's not as predictable as you think. The best part of this novel, however, is that Ms. Reese is very familiar with the submissive mind (in a BDSM context)... she knows what the sub feels and thinks. She understands the internal psychological struggles of one who fights with, and eventually resolves herself to her submissive needs. That type of insight, combined with a thrilling story, is RARE and a real treat to read. I savored it and enjoyed every page.

A tightly-written erotic thriller

Laura Reese's Panic Snap is a tightly written novel about one woman's search to find her true self. The main character, Carly Tyler, was left for dead 15 years prior to the novel's opening. Now, after seeing something that stirs her memory, she is in search of information about her former life. This search takes her to the California wine country, where she meets James McGuane, a man of extreme power and wealth who takes her on a journey of discovery.Fans of Reese's first novel, Topping From Below, will enjoy Panic Snap, which follows in the same vane. Panic Snap features richer characters which tell an interesting mystery that, although is clear from the start, is a mesmerizing tale to read. The erotic scenes are not for the faint at heart. These scenes not only feature sex, of the BDSM variety, they show how this effects a person's emotions and feelings, and the relationship of dominance and submission. Although the thread of the scenes are similar to Reese's first novel, she has taken a different enough approach in them that they are not a repeat of the first book. This book is a wonderfully written follow-up to Topping from Below. I hope to see more from this author.
