As the front flap says, 'beginner or experienced, there is always something new to learn.' I've been painting for over thirty years and still found this book to be an excellent resource for painting in both oils and acrylics, as well as watercolors (I just found it by accident in a book store which was closing and came here to find a copy for a friend). Many projects are integrated throughout the book, including both basic and advanced techniques by which to handle different mediums. I'll also recommend another book I initially purchased some years ago for my nephew who was being home-schooled at the time, "Art School, A Complete Painters Course," by Patricia Monahan, Patricia Seligman & Wendy Clouse, 432 pages. I subsequently purchased a copy for myself and have found it, like the Painting Master Class, to be an excellent resource from which to draw not only concise information about the different mediums, but also inspiration in the way of technique and application to such genre as the nude, landscape, still life, the portrait, etc. Both books offer similar information, including basic art technique (including composition, perspective, etc.), but to be fair, I would say the purchase of both books would cover just about any question you might ever (gee, for ever?) have about painting. Given one choice alone, I'd recommend the Painting Master Class while supplies last.

A very detailed, informative book with easy to follow step by step instructions. A variety of mediums are covered, as well as a great range of painting styles for each medium. There are lots of vivid illustrations, both for instruction and the various painting styles.
