Paint Formulation for Beginners: No Chemistry Degree Required

Nobody grows up wanting to be a coatings formulator. There's no "Future Coatings Chemists of America" club in high school. You don't see kids doing career day projects on pigment dispersion. What actually happens is that someone gets hired at a paint company - maybe they have a chemistry degree, maybe they have a biology degree, maybe they answered a job posting that said "lab tech, will train" - and on their first week they get handed a formula sheet with twenty-five ingredients on it and told to get started.
That's it. That's the onramp.
If they're lucky, there's an experienced person nearby who's willing to explain things. If they're very lucky, that person is good at explaining things. If they're neither, they spend the first six months nodding along and quietly Googling terms at their desk hoping nobody notices.
