Modern Charles Dickson’s tale!!

I loved this book so much! It was so heartbreaking and full of hope, love, and with a better understanding of the Korean people. I can not express the feelings the writer gave me as I journeyed through the life of this family. It is a timeless tale and I know doubt believe this will go down in history as one of the greatest works of historical fictions.

Beautifully Written

A wonderful story that was akin to "One Hundred Years of Solitude" but with a dose of historical fiction. This novel brought me to tears, and I would highly recommend it.

Amazing and beautifully written

I absolutely recommend

An exceptional read

I bought this book not expecting to even finish it, rather I finished it in 3 days. I find the phrase “Couldn’t put the book down” to be a bit cheesy and overused because that had never happened for me, but I truly hated to close the book and go on with daily life. I think Lee Min-Jin does an outstanding job of character building and making you feel what these characters are feeling and writing imagery. I 100% recommend this book because you can tell that Lee Min-Jin put a lot of effort into writing this. This book is deserving of each and everyone of the awards it won and more!

The smut was unnecessary

This was a great read, Lee really knows how to write multi-generational. It was great to see books deal with the time period and setting(s) that caused conflict within the novel. My only problem with it (and feel free to disagree) is that a lot of the explicit scenes and smut were unnecessary to the plot. Still, Lee wrote and defined relationships really well.

Great book

Really enjoyed this book
