Owl on the Roof: Murder in Little River

When the old owl decided to eat her breakfast on the roof of Margaret Leland's cabin on Little River her thumping woke the author from deep sleep. Unable to go back to sleep, she decided to go fishing, maybe catch a trout for breakfast. She caught two and was about to go home, when what appeared to be a dead man floated past her canoe. Not knowing if he was alive or dead she grabbed a handful of his jacket and holding him beside the canoe dragged him to the landing. If he lived, he would have to thank the Owl would be his savior. She checked his pulse. He was still alive, but unresponsive. She started to call 911 but realized only someone local would know about that old trail to the river, and if the killer knew she had saved his victim, he would come after her. She decided to wait . . . to see if she could get the guy awake . . .
