Excellent book

There are 6 main chapters: Chapter 1: Precursors of the Civil Rights Movement (6 viewpoints) Chapter 2: Desegregating the Schools (4 viewpoints) Chapter 3: Means and Goals of the Civil Rights Movement (10 viewpoints) Chapter 4: Debates on National Civil Rights Acts (4 viewpoints) Chapter 5: From Civil Rights to Black Power (4 viewpoints) Chapter 6: Two Historians Examine the Civil Rights Movement (2 viewpoints) I grew up in the South and textbooks omit much history on the subject. This book provided a great sampling of speeches, letters, and articles on all the above topics. Each essay provided a different viewpoint from prominent black leaders, judges, presidents, and more. I learned a lot about the Civil Rights Movement by reading the ideas of others. I was born more than a decade after the assassinations of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Medgar Evers. To hear from the people who faced the struggle first-hand was eye-opening and moved me deeply.
