"Mud squad." That's what they'd call themselves. These unruly men on the frontlines of the German 76th Infantrie Division should have been sent to penal units years ago. But to the dismay of their Nazi superiors, they need every man they can get to hold off the relentless Soviets - even these misfits.
The most lively member of the squad is a quirky but seasoned marksman named Rupert Schmidt. Unfortunately, his unorthodox style doesn't mesh well with their newest replacement from the Fatherland, Bruno Lindemann, whose patriotic concept of what a battle-hardened German soldier looks like couldn't be further from reality. He couldn't have come at a worse time, either - the entire Eastern Front has been falling, so their days in Oradea are surely limited. Will they be able to fight their way out? But if the war is already lost, what's the point of fighting, anyway?
Overwatch: 1944 is a historical fiction based on the Battle of Debrecen in Oradea, then-Czechoslovakia. The setting has been researched in-depth to ensure the story coincides with the actions of the German 76th Infantrie Division during autumn of 1944. Just like these doomed soldiers, Overwatch: 1944 is meant for those that have found themselves too deep in something that turned out to be nothing at all like they imagined.
