Esmy Hansen fixes the same crappy WiFi problems at Baldur College every single day, and her biggest complaint about the universe is that women's jeans don't come with real pockets. Then Loki, the Norse trickster god, turns up claiming to be her great-grandfather. Suddenly her boss is a vampire, the college has been quietly teaching Preternatural Sciences the whole time, and this sleepy Indiana town is crawling with magic and monsters she somehow never noticed.
There are upsides. Esmy learns to conjure a pocket bigger than a closet, which honestly solves most of her problems. Her librarian brother Jake takes up beginner necromancy, practicing on ducks from a local poultry farm.
The downside is that Loki didn't come home for a family reunion. He's on a leash held by Seth, the most micromanaging god in the Egyptian pantheon, and the job is stealing the corpse of Horus. Between a voodoo priestess who runs a Girl Scout troop, a melodramatic Canadian with a grudge against the cookies, and the occasional Sasquatch, Esmy and Jake's survival is going to come down to a fight over a god's dead body.
Over a God's Dead Body is a supernatural comedy packed with Norse and Egyptian mythology, for fans of Terry Pratchett, Christopher Moore, and anyone who thought American Gods needed more jokes.
