A riveting story of American fighting men, Outlaw Platoon is Lieutenant Sean Parnell's stunning personal account of the legendary U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division's heroic stand in the mountains of Afghanistan. Acclaimed for its vivid, poignant, and honest recreation of sixteen brutal months of nearly continuous battle in the deadly Hindu Kesh, Outlaw Platoon is a Band of Brothers or We Were Soldiers Once and Young for the early 21st century--an action-packed, highly emotional true story of enormous sacrifice and bravery. A magnificent account of heroes, renegades, infidels, and brothers, it stands with Sebastian Junger's War as one of the most important books to yet emerge from the heat, smoke, and fire of America's War in Afghanistan.
I had zero understanding of war and this opened my eyes to a whole new world. I bought this for my husband but it accidentally became a door to a whole new obsession. Like whatttt! I’m just a silly little city girl and now I like war?! Whattt!!! I gained a whole new perspective and grew immense respect for infantrymen. They really push the boundary of what humans are capable of enduring! My mind is blown. I had to ask my husband what all the military terms meant and had to google pictures lol yet despite that it was so easy to follow. Sean Parnell made me feel like I was there experiencing all the highs and lows. He definitely put his heart into this. Buy the dang book!

The Best of the Best

The best book I have read on the subject by far, plus I learnt so much from it. I have always had respect for our Military but this just raised it to a new level. Sean Parnell takes you right into it and blows away pre-conceived ideas. He does not rely on foul language and Rah-Rah as so many of the so called 'military writers' do (trying to be gritty and hardcore) or start you off when he was in diapers and how tough he became, but Sean just gets on with the job with the minimum of fuss, like the true professional he is. This is real courage , real brotherhood. It was hard to put this book down.
