Patricia Gaffney captivated millions of readers with her New York Times bestseller The Saving Graces . Now she sweeps readers into a world of danger and desire, where a woman of courage and a man of mystery risk everything in the name of love... As the owner of a saloon in Paradise, Oregon, Cady McGill is surviving in a man's world. She can't afford to let her guard down for anyone-especially the man in black who arrives out of nowhere to arouse her suspicions...and her senses. He calls himself Jesse Gault-an achingly attractive stranger with guns on his hips and a mocking smile on his lips. But Cady has seen her share of swindlers, and she knows that Gault's charms are as deceptive as his name. Yet even as sudden gunfire blazes, desire flares in Cady's heart. Now she must fight her own deepest feelings as a man who is not what he seems awakens a tender, abiding passion that can only be the real thing.
Caddie McGill is a saloon owner with big dreams and a bigger heart. For years she has battled the man who wants to control the town, appropriately named Mr. Wyle, for control of her gold mine. Though it has ostensibly played out, it is hers, and she wants to keep it; more importantly, to keep her enemy from having it. However, Caddie is up against a foe who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Then, notorious gunfighter Jesse Gault enters town. With a legend that proeceeds him, Gault finds that people are willing to do whatever it takes to please him and to keep their lives. Only the lovely saloon owner appears unintimidated by him and the potential danger he poses. Despite this, he is attracted to her. Though she hates to admit it, even to herself, for men have treated her badly all her life, Caddie feels something for Gault. There is much more to this gunfighter than meets the eye, and as he makes a place in the town for himself, Jesse finds his way into Caddie's heart. When his secret is revealed, will he continue to have her love, or even to live?***** Humor and romance combine to give this novel a touch that is reminescent of the James Garner SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL.... duet of movies. A spunky heroine, ordinary guy hiding behind a larger than life image, colorful townsfolk, and a comedic surprise twist make this a light novel that many will find easily enjoyable, especially when it is spiced up with very hot love scenes. ***** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore.

Gaffney's CROOKED HEARTS cracked me up--a western comedy--and this was is more of the same, something I can't get enough of. Her ironies and tongue in cheek just blow me away. I loved the characters--the hero esp who poses as a gunfighter without knowing the first thing about handling guns and still manages to scare the living daylights out of people. Oh, I just enjoyed the heck out of this book, devoured it in a day!
Hilarious and steamy

Want a great cast, great pair, great romance AND hilarious set-ups and dialogue? Then you MUST read Patricia Gaffney. She has gone on to write hardcover--THE SAVING GRACES--with exceptional success, but her paperback historical romances are gems on their own. Don't miss this one especially. Ms. Gaffney's knowledge of human nature and wry humor make it special indeed!

Gaffney's talents as both a storyteller and a wit are evident throughout this beautifully constructed book. It's so much fun to read that it's easy to underestimate the depth of the way it examines the masks we all wear to get through life and love affairs in one piece. All of Gaffney's books are terrific, but the ones that showcase her smart, sly humor are my favorites. Read CROOKED HEARTS, too; it's as much fun as OUTLAW.
