Robin Perry has been writing poetry and short stories since he was 16 and has been frequently published in competition anthologies such as the Cleveland Write Around since 1989. He won a first prize in that publication in 1991 and also a first prize in a World Wide Writers book in1998. He has also written a book on his travels through Africa and articles on ornithology for a newspaper in Slovakia.
This publication, Out of the Wild, is essentially an expansion and revision of a smaller selection of 42 poems which was first published in 2010. This current selection has focused on adding 30 more wildlife poems especially about birds, butterflies and mammals so that readers can get a broader view of what can be observed and enjoyed through poetry in the countryside whether here in UK or abroad. Features of their habits and behaviour have been elicited both for the reader's better understanding and enjoyment.
These poems do not just focus on wildlife in the UK alone and poems like Wallcreeper, Tapiola, Dawn Hunt, Marmots and Earthquake reflect time and experience of travelling in Slovakia, Finland, Ireland, France and South America respectively. By broadening the focus it is hoped that readers will also appreciate the interconnectedness of wildlife and environment across the world and appreciate the common threads across our planet which unite rather than divide us.
