The beginning of the 20th Century brought a growth in Antisemitism in Germany, but after the rise of Hitler to power, the persecution of Jews began to be systematical. Born in 1930, Carl (Karl Heinz) Redel grew up in Nazi Germany. Due to his parents' Polish citizenship, he found himself part of the Polenaktion (Poland Operation) that deported Polish citizens back to their native country. Consequently, his closely-knit family was torn apart with his father separated in Germany for nine months. His early life was like being in a frying pan. Towards the end of 1939, he immigrated with his family to Bolivia where he enjoyed a wonderful youth. His next migration, near the end of 1947, was to the United States of America.
