When Lonnie Huggins is released from prison, he is rewarded for not flipping on his gang by being handed four kilos and the task of starting a drug territory for the notorious Cabrini Green Gang in... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is probably the best CPD book, or police book as a whole, to come along in many years. I worked all the places where this takes place, the old 18, (in Tac,among other things) PHN (The Greens) and in the woods (Englewood). I could see the places, and the people, like I was there, or had lived it. And the characters sure seemed like people I would run into. I was picturing actual coppers in all the roles. All the action is real, as is the dialog. The very only think I didn't care for much was the very last chapter, which was a bit predictable. The other thing I might suggest to the author is to clarify a bit more where these places are in relation to each other, particularly where the 18th District is in general in relation not only to the projects, but to the city. Maybe even include a little map in the next book. This book will reach far beyond just Chicago readers. My guess in not too many years people will be looking for the 18th Distict they read about in these books. Sadly, it was knocked down a few years ago. Other than that, there isn't a better cop book out right now. I usually never say this, but I"m really looking forward to the next one.

This novel moves quickly...blink and you'll miss something important. Lonnie is bone-chillingly bad, and his hopeless girlfriend is a well-crafted compilation of life in the ghetto. This book is well worth the price, and the story is unforgettable. Way to go, Dave. We need a sequal, and SOON.
Great story from a real cop

This guy makes you feel like you're right there in the middle of the action with the gangbangers from Cabrini. It almost seems like my uncle, who was a Chicago cop in the eighteenth district for years, is telling me another story from the job. All of the small details about being a Chicago copper, from problems with politically connected incompetent superiors down to the radio protocol are exactly like it is. If this book didn't have " A Macbeth Novel" in the title I could mistake it for non-fiction.
Out of Cabrini

A brilliant page turner, and a rare window into one of the largest, toughest, police forces on the planet. Case gives us a view that it true and gritty and will put you on the edge of your seat. It's a great book. You wont be able to stop reading the last 50 pages. He combines an image of the city as objective beast hung with winter weather and bad guys so real you need a heating blanket and loaded pistol by your bed when you read this book. It is obvious that this is is a self written book taken from his experiences on the meanest streets of Chicago. If you want a genuine look behind the badge, buy this book! I want more like this from Mr. Case, many more!
